Listen Up – Lucy Parker

With a debut album due later this year and her single Red Ink finding favour on internet radio, Lucy Parker becomes one to look out for

About Lucy Parker
Inspired by the lyricism of Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Lewis Capaldi, Lucy creates music in the style of folk/pop, taking sounds from country, Irish and pop music. Her songs tell a story and mean something to the people that hear them. With a passion for what she does, she can’t wait to share her music with more people. Lucy’s debut album ‘a beautiful place to die’ is coming out this year and with over half of the songs recorded at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, she can’t wait for it to be yours.

How would you describe your music?
It’s acoustic folk/pop, with some influences from Irish and country music. I’m slightly too obsessed with Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Lewis Capaldi so I think you can hear that in my songs. The main thing for me are the lyrics so if you like music that has meaningful lyrics and tells a story you might have found a new artist in me. That’s the first thing I listen for when I hear new music so it has always been the thing I focus on. All of my tracks are very acoustic as I write and perform them by myself and my acoustic guitar but we’ve got a full band on the album which is really nice and I’m hoping I can start performing with a band soon.

What has been your highlight so far?
I got the amazing chance to record over half of my upcoming album at the iconic Abbey Road Studios which was insane! I had never been before so it was a very surreal day and I had to kind of put all my excitement and nerves to the back of my mind so I could do a good job. But in the last few months, looking back at the experience, it’s all hitting me how crazy it was! It was even better because I was there with a great team of people, my producers from B Side Recording were there and we work really well together. I also got to record with one of my close friends Boy Blue as we have a song together on the album which was great. Last, but not least, I surprised my Beatles obsessed guitar teacher that he was going to come along and record with me. I’ve known him for 10 years now so it was really nice being in the studio with him and being able to share the experience with him. Hopefully I can have more days like that one again.

What plans regarding recordings, video, tours etc do you have for the future?
My first single is out on the 29th March which is called Red Ink. Then, there is one more single in May before the whole album is released in the summer. I’m so so excited for it to be out in the world, I’m really proud of the work that we’ve done. I’m getting some more gigs coming in and even some radio interviews so it’s all really exciting at the moment so keep a lookout for more updates.

Is there anything else you would like to say or any message to our readers?
Try not to stress too much about the future, I know it’s easier said than done. Things always, in some way or another, work out – sometimes it takes a bit longer or it’s not exactly what you imagined but it happens. If you told me a few years ago where I am now, I don’t think I would’ve believed you. So yeah just push through, you’ve got this!
